EDRMedeso Soil Stiffness for Ansys Mechanical : Create a non-linear depth dependent support stiffness boundary condition.

Background

• Ansys Mechanical has an elastic support that places a constant stiffness foundation support on selected surfaces using surface effect elements. Modelling a non-linear foundation stiffness is important in applications like structure-soil interaction but cannot be applied using this feature.

Solution

• The “Soil Stiffness” object can be used to create a general non-linear foundation support including friction. The support was specifically designed to be used with pressure-displacement curves of soil stiffness that can vary in the depth direction.

• The resulting soil pressure can be plotted with the “Soil Pressure” result.

• The resulting soil friction stress can be plotted with the “Soil Friction” result.
